Originally from Orlando, Florida, I have been absolutely enamored with the art of theatre for my whole life. I attended an Arts Magnet program in high school before receiving my undergraduate theatre degree from Southern Methodist University. I lived in Boston and New York City for two years before returning to Dallas where I am currently based.
I am in awe of theatre’s ability to push boundaries, ask difficult questions, and expand our understanding of what is possible. Throughout the course of my theatrical career, I have focused on embracing curiosity and asking questions. This is what drives the core of everything I do as a theatre director and educator. I am fascinated by breaking apart the way the world works and exploring our similarities and differences as humans. It is art that explores our shared anxieties, joys, fears, shames, loves, melancholies, everything we experience in the mess of living, that interests me the most. Two of the many questions that has driven my work in recent years have been “how do we live authentically as ourselves in a world with others?” and “how to we share a world with people who are different from us?”
My love of theatre comes from my love of people. I think being present and in community with each other is essential to us and I have the utmost respect for what it takes to be an actor, designer, technician, producer – I am interested in it all. I see the role of a director as someone who sets each person up for success in a production to the best of their ability. I believe a successful director can identify the heartbeat of a story and be able to communicate that life to the actors, designers, and technicians who are living it. My passion for directing has deepened through my experience working on productions as well as through teaching acting classes to adults and high school students. I adore theatre artists and how much vulnerability, passion, and skill they bring to their work.
When not working on plays, I am reading books about history, watching films with my cinephile fiance, or spending time with my cats. I have a deep love and curiosity for the world around me and love to learn about new things in the world as often as I can.
